Lincoln St. Baptist Church
A View of our Heritage
Lincoln Street Baptist Church began as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Dalhart on
December 7, 1947. The building was purchased on February 8, 1950 from the Church of the Nazarene.
On Sunday, September 30, 1951, a counseling committee of six people met for the an organizational meeting to
begin the process of changing the mission into a new Church. At this meeting, a call was held for
who planned to join the new Church and both the Articles of Faith and the
Church Covenant were accepted by the new members. First Baptist Church
agreed to release all members who wished to unite with the newly organized Church and
also agreed to give the land, buildings and parsonage to the new Church.
The new Church agreed to cooperate with Baptist Churches of like faith and order,
including the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Finally, a motion and second to declare themselves a Church was passed by the 65 charter members.
A naming committee was set up and brought forth the name: Lincoln Street Baptist Church. The
Pastor Committee called Reverand Ward Lawrence to be the first Pastor for the new Church.
